Youngsters take part in Walk to School Week

 24 May 2017 -

As part of a national challenge to celebrate the benefits of walking, pupils from Mission Grove Primary school in Walthamstow took part in Walk to School Week 2017.

Supported by Waltham Forest Council’s Road Safety Team, from 15-19 May parents and children were encouraged to ditch their cars and walk to school, as part of an initiative to increase the number of children walking every day.

Kate Jennings, Head Teacher of Mission Grove Primary School said:

"At Mission Grove we track how the children come to school every day as part of our Healthy schools status and our travel plan. Having a week focused on walking has raised the profile, not only with the children but also the parents, about how important it is for the environment and our health to walk to school. "

The school has been awarded silver status by Transport for London’s STARS scheme, for the work it has done to inspire youngsters to travel to school sustainably and actively.

Last week, youngsters up and down the country opted to walk to school in support of Walk to School Week; keeping active and helping to reduce pollution and congestion around schools.
