Resident survey – February 2014

Before funding was received from Transport for London (TfL), concerns had been raised by local residents about non-residential traffic using the area around Pembroke Road as a cut through.

To further understand these concerns raised, the Council carried out a survey in February 2014 to understand the main concerns of local residents and businesses. 2,288 leaflets were delivered to households in the area and 118 individual responses were received with traffic volumes and speeding on residential roads highlighted as key issues.

This information from residents along with initial traffic survey data suggested that a high number of vehicles using Walthamstow Village cut through between Hoe Street and Lea Bridge Road, often at high speed.

When Waltham Forest was award £27million from TfL, to make the borough safer and more accessible to walking and cycling, the Council decided to use the funding to help resolve these two key issues and improve the overall surroundings and environment.
