Works substantially/completed in past week

Normanton Park – public realm improvement works completed outside Whitehall Primary School including resin bounded surfacing

Construction works – occurring over next 2 wks - commencing 12 May 2017

  • Whitehall Road/ Normanton Park – footway improvement and zebra crossing upgrade. Works will involve the kerb line adjustment along Whitehall Road at the junctions with Long Deacon Road and Normanton Road, and resurfacing of the widened footway.
  • Friday Hill / Hatch Lane junction – creation of a new raised junction table will consist of raising the road to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the junction, as well as a new combined cycle and pedestrian crossing and a segregated cycle track separating cyclists from drivers. All works have been completed including installation of beacon posts at proposed crossing and overnight carriageway resurfacing which has been programme for week commencing Monday 15 May.
  • Friday Hill / Chingdale Road junction – create a new raised junction table will consist of raising the road to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the junction.
  • Friday Hill East between Chingdale Road and Bluehouse Road – create a new segregated cycle track which separates cyclists from drivers.
  • Whitehall Road - will be resurfaced at its junctions with Normanton Park and Long Deacon Road on week commencing Monday 22 May to Friday 26 May between 9.30am and 3.30pm under two-way temporary traffic lights.
  • New Road/Grove Road – removing signal crossing and creating a new combined cycle and pedestrian crossing, creating a new raised junction table which involves raising the road to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing, relocating the existing westbound bus stop ‘N’ to 30 metres east on New Road and realigning the kerb on Bailey Close near the entrance to Larkswood Playing Fields. These works will commence on Monday 22 May and should take six weeks to complete.

Traffic detours

None anticipated but traffic lanes will be narrowed for the duration of the works, 08.00 – 16.00

During Friday Hill/ Hatch Lane resurfacing, diversion will be in place via Hatch lane, New Road, Larkswood Road, Kings Road and Friday Hill, from Monday 15 May to Friday 19 May between 9pm and 5am.

Parking restrictions

Parking restrictions will be in place, please look out for information signs

  • Parking suspended on Chingdale Road for the first 30 metres from Friday Hill.
  • Parking suspended on Friday Hill East for the first 30 metres from Chingdale Road.
  • Parking suspended on Normanton Park for the first 30 metres from Whitehall Road.
  • Parking suspended on Long Deacon Road for the first 30 metres from Whitehall Road.
  • Parking suspended on New Road at its junction with Grove Road and on Bailey Close by the park entrance.

Access to driveways will be maintained

Works starting soon:

 Whitehall Road

Upgrading the existing zebra crossing to a new raised combined pedestrian and cycle crossing, at this location will be starting soon. Once finished the road and crossing will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. This will improve pedestrian access to the local area and provide a safer crossing point for both cyclists and pedestrians.

Whitehall Road and Normanton Park junction

Starting soon will be the works to build the entry point of the new raised road table at this junction, road and crossing. Once finished, the road will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. This will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

Whitehall Road and Long Deacon Road junction

Work to build the entry point of the new raised road table at the junction will begin at this location during the April school holidays. Once finished, the road will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. This will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

  • Whilst works are taking place, there will be no traffic detours, but the lanes of the roads will be narrowed to allow works to take place to minimise disruption
  • Parking suspensions will be imposed to allow the works to take place. Please look out for signs advising of any restrictions and please park in neighbouring roads whilst works are taking place.

Friday Hill and Chingdale Road junction

Works will start soon at this location to build a new raised table junction. This is where the road and junction are raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the junction. Once finished, this will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

The following works are still continuing:

Normanton Park outside Whitehall Primary School

As part of our efforts to improve this location, by making it more pleasant and an enjoyable place to spend time. A resin bounded surface will be laid to the path to help improve the surface for pedestrians,  make it more attractive and hard wearing.

Whitehall Road junction with Normanton Park

Works are still on-going on the pavement improvements and the zebra crossing upgrades currently being built. Work also includes adjusting the kerbs along Whitehall Road at the junctions with Long Deacon Road and Normanton Road. Once finished we plan to resurface the widened pavement. This is part of our plans to make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to get about. Pedestrians should still have access to the pavement and vehicles should not be disrupted by these works. However, please look out for signs advising of any restrictions.

Friday Hill junction with Hatch Lane

Works are well underway on building the new raised junction table at this location. The road and junction will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the junction. In addition a new combined cycle and pedestrian crossing and a segregated cycle track which separates cyclists from drivers is also being built.

  • Overnight carriageway resurfacing is planned for week commencing Monday 15 May at this location
  • The use of noisy machinery during the night will be kept to a minimum where possible
  • Please look out for further details nearer the time.

Friday Hill junction with Chingdale Road

Works have started on building the the new raised table junction at this location. The road  will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the junction. Making it safer and easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get about.

Friday Hill East between Chingdale Road and Bluehouse Road

We have started building the new segregated cycle track at this location. Once finished this will create a separate, designated space for cycling, making it safer and easier for cycles and vehicles to share the road. During the construction of the cycle track we are asking all road users and pedestrians to look out for any diversions that maybe in place. Pedestrians should still have access to the pavement.

Before the April school holidays, the following works are starting:

  • Whitehall Road (east of Normanton Park) building will start on the new raised combined pedestrian and cycle crossing that is level with the existing pavement. Once finished the road and crossing will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. This will improve pedestrian access to the local area and provide a safer crossing point for both cyclists and pedestrians.

During the April school holidays, the following works are starting:

  • To minimise the level of disruption to local residents and traffic, we will be working on the existing zebra crossing on Whitehall Road and upgrading the crossing into a raised combined pedestrian and cycle crossing.
  • Whitehall Road and Normanton Park junction - work to build the entry point of the raised road table at the junction, road and crossing. Once finished, the road will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. This will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Whitehall Road and Long Deacon Road junction – work to build the entry point of the new raised road table at the junction will begin at this location during the April school holidays. Once finished, the road will be raised to pavement level to encourage vehicles to slow down when approaching the crossing. The pavement will be resurfaced and bike parking installed. The pavement will be narrowed in sections during construction to allow works to take place. However, pedestrians will still have access.. Please look out for any cones, diversions and signage that maybe in place whilst works are on-going.
