Walthamstow Family Bike Club Main Ride
14 August 2016 1:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Our regular 2nd Sunday Ride 14th August.
Join us on Sunday 14th August at 1pm outside the Ancient House for the Walthamstow Family Bike Club's main monthly ride. We mix gentle exercise with a relaxed exploration of local open spaces, back street routes you have probably never spotted before, plus a sociable cafe stop mid afternoon. The distance we cover will not exceed 15 miles.
For more information see the 'Regular 2nd Sunday ride information' panel further down.
Regular 2nd Sunday ride information
If you haven't experienced our easy paced relaxed rides on the second Sunday of each month where you are comfortably cocoooned amongst a group of cyclists, why not give it a try? Our route & distance is dependent upon the weather including wind direction/strength, capability of those present, the right balance between lashings of tea/ginger beer/slices of cake/distance pedaled, and anything else that seems important to those assembled. This event is utterly free (apart from the cafe!).
Meet us on the 2nd Sunday each month. at 1pm at the Orford Road/Church Lane junction E17, next to the old postbox near St. Mary’s Church - see the map below. We'll stop off at a cafe during the afternoon, but its best to bring something to nibble on, as well as some water to keep yourself hydrated.
We aim to get back by 6pm in the summer months, and 5pm in the winter (it will be dark, so bring your lights). We offer a very safe environment for those who feel nervous about motor traffic. We keep together as a group and ‘top and tail’ the ride with marshals – an experienced ride leader at the front, an expert marshal at the back to keep cars out of our convoy. And we have a mix of more confident adult riders and marshals on the right hand side to act as a buffer zone. When on busier residential streets or urban roads we cluster together to form a tighter bike bus which is pretty much impenetrable by cars. When crossing busy junctions we block motor traffic from both directions to ensure safe passage across by our riders.
Everyone is welcome, so if you know someone who might enjoy our rides, please forward this on.
